Best Practices in Environmental Stewardship
The Sleep Products Sustainability Program (SP2) helps mattress manufacturers reduce waste while increasing operational efficiencies. The program was developed as part of the industry’s commitment to environmental stewardship and complements MRC’s sustainability efforts. Training, program resources and certification are all offered at no-cost to eligible California-based mattress manufacturers.

What is SP2?
SP2 is a voluntary program that develops a pathway to increased efficiency, resulting in lower overall operating costs. Participants will earn an SP2 facility certification. Similar to other certification programs (such as Enhancing Furniture’s Environmental Culture and ISO 14001), SP2 establishes a management system for in-depth business analysis that will identify steps to reduce environmental impacts, establish best practices and define metrics to track progress. SP2 can also serve as a foundation for pursuing an ISO 14001 certification, the international standard for effective environmental management systems.
7 Lessons Learned from SP2 certified facilities
On Dec. 1, the Mattress Recycling Council hosted a one-hour webinar featuring lessons learned from the first few Sleep Products Sustainability Program (SP2) certified participants. MRC shared examples of the cost and energy savings achieved following the SP2 roadmap.

ViewPleasant Mattress Achieves SP2 Certification
California’s Pleasant Mattress became the first manufacturer to achieve certification for its production facilities through the Mattress Recycling Council’s Sleep Products Sustainability Program.
