ALEXANDRIA, Va. – This month the Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) begins identifying and implementing process efficiency improvements by sponsoring Kaizen Events at participating California mattress recycling facilities. These events build on the insights gained in previously conducted lean assessments and will be facilitated by MWS & Associates.
“Continuous process efficiency improvement is a key component to establishing a robust and sustainable mattress recycling industry. We look forward to this next step in our journey,” explained Mike Gallagher, MRC research consultant.
Over the course of three to five days, each recycler will develop, test and adopt process efficiency improvements recommended in their customized lean assessment report. A summary of those reports is available here. The summary revealed all recyclers have an opportunity to improve effectiveness in some key areas such as process workflow, deconstructing mattress or box spring frames, preparing materials for shipment and inventory management.
MRC anticipates completing the Kaizen Events by end of March 2021. For more information about MRC’s research efforts, visit www.mattressrecyclingcouncil.org/research.
