The Biodesign Center for Sustainable Macromolecular Materials and Manufacturing at Arizona State University has released its final report, highlighting a potential use of recycled polyurethane mattress foam in oil spill clean-up technology. The study demonstrates that surface treatment of mattress foam significantly enhances its absorbent properties, tripling oil absorption capacity and increasing selectivity for oil over water nearly sevenfold. ASU is now seeking partners to explore development opportunities.
