Accounts Receivable and Payable Specialist

From its inception over 100 years ago, the International Sleep Products Association (ISPA) has been committed to supporting the mattress industry through active public policy, public affairs, and education initiatives. ISPA represents the full bedding industry on a host of safety, health, commercial, recycling and environmental issues, and serves to provide a positive image for the sleep products industry.

The Accounts Receivable and Payable (AR/AP) Specialist is responsible for managing the full cycle of both incoming and outgoing payments. The candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, able to multi-task, and deliver professional customer service.  This role ensures timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and customer billings, maintains financial records, and supports key accounting functions such as month-end close and audits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Log and track all incoming invoices to track timely processing
  • Review, code, and reconcile vendor invoices with supporting documentation; investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Prioritize invoices according to payment terms and prepare ACH and check payments
  • Enter financial transactions into Intacct accounting software accurately and promptly
  • Generate customer invoices and statements; monitor and collect outstanding receivables
  • Accurately apply customer payments and reconcile accounts
  • Communicate with vendors and customers to resolve billing or payment issues
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records in compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Support month-end close activities and assist with annual audit preparation

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; ability to analyze and manipulate data effectively
  • Experience with Intacct accounting software; familiarity with Sage Intacct is a plus
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial processes
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Professional, dependable, and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including research and resolution of discrepancies

Compensation  
This is a full-time salaried position, salary commensurate with experience. ISPA provides an extensive benefit package. This position is a 35 hour per week position. ISPA offers a hybrid work environment with employees able to work 2 days per week in our Alexandria, Virginia office and 3 days at home.

Counsel (part-time)

Alexandria, VA

Job Summary

The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) seeks qualified candidates for a part-time Senior Counsel in support of statewide mattress recycling programs in California, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Oregon.  

This remote position will assist General Counsel with day-to-day legal needs, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, legal research, and advising on other legal and corporate governance issues. 

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate complex contracts with MRC program partners, including municipal governments 
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various vendor and consulting agreements  
  • Provide legal guidance to field staff in support of program operations 
  • Conduct legal research and analysis 
  • Various other duties to support the legal needs of the organization 

Requirements

  • At least 2-4 years relevant work experience in a legal environment, J.D. from ABA ABA-accredited law school, and active admission to a state bar 
  • Active bar membership in good standing in CA, CT, OR, or RI 
  • Ability to dedicate a consistent schedule for remote office hours  
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting 
  • Ability to multitask and adjust to the evolving needs of a rapidly growing organization 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail are essential 
  • Contract drafting and negotiation experience 
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and CLM systems, including contract generation 
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in product stewardship programs or environmental law is a plus 

Compensation:

This is a part-time position, working 20–24 hours per week, with a rate of $75–$85 per hour.

Director, Policy & Government Affairs

Alexandria, VA

Job Summary:

In consultation with ISPA’s President, the Director, Policy & Government Affairs leads the association’s state and federal advocacy efforts, representing ISPA and the mattress industry on a broad range of legislative and regulatory issues at the federal and state levels. This role also manages the government affairs needs of ISPA’s affiliate, the Mattress Recycling Council (MRC), which administers mattress recycling programs under four state laws. Serving as a central liaison among ISPA, MRC, policymakers, member companies, and relevant NGOs, the Director develops and implements strategies to advance organizational priorities and achieve legislative and regulatory goals.

Job Functions:

  • Monitor, analyze, and track federal and state legislative and regulatory actions impacting ISPA, MRC, their members, and the broader mattress industry.
  •  Develop policy positions and responses on legislative and regulatory proposals, including drafting testimony, legislative language, and regulatory filings.
  •  Assist in the implementation of a sustainability program to raise awareness and encourage innovative practices that enhance environmental performance.
  •  Communicate policy developments and organizational positions to ISPA members, MRC stakeholders, and staff.
  •  Hire, direct, and manage contract lobbyists and consultants to support advocacy goals.
  •  Build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, policymakers, NGOs, and other stakeholders, establishing ISPA and MRC as trusted and credible resources.
  •  Represent ISPA and MRC at meetings, hearings, and events involving regulators and elected officials.
  •  Serve as industry liaison to legislative coalitions addressing manufacturer-related issues.
  •  Promote ISPA’s and MRC’s advocacy agenda through trade, national, and local media as appropriate.
  •  Encourage and coordinate grassroots engagement among ISPA members.
  •  Manage ISPA Government Affairs committee and produce regular advocacy reports, publications, and digital content.
  • Travel required

Education/Experience Requirements:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, law, or a related field required; advanced degree (e.g., JD, MPP, MPA) preferred.
  •  Minimum of 5 years of responsible experience in government affairs, public policy, or legislative/regulatory advocacy at the federal and/or state level.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing successful advocacy strategies and engaging with policymakers, regulators, and NGOs.
  •  Strong knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes, with the ability to analyze complex policy issues and translate them into actionable strategies.
  •  Proven ability to draft legislative language, testimony, regulatory comments, and other advocacy materials.
  • Experience managing contract lobbyists, consultants, and/or policy staff.
  • Familiarity with sustainability, recycling, or environmental policy issues preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent organizational positions effectively before diverse audiences including policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the media.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with a reputation for credibility, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Experience working with trade associations, coalitions, or member-driven organizations is highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and to work both independently and collaboratively.

Compensation

This is a full-time, salaried position based in Alexandria, VA; relocation expenses are not provided. The role reports directly to the President. ISPA offers an extensive benefits package and a salary range of $95,000–$120,000.
