For Earth Day, Mattress Recycling Council Provides Reminder Of The Importance of Recycling
With Earth Day celebrated on April 22, the Mattress Recycling Program is set to mark its five-year anniversary, on May 1. Mattress recycling operations continue at facilities such as Willimantic Waste, even during the COVID-19 shutdown. More than 80 percent of a mattress can be recycled, eliminating tons of waste from landfills. MRC has focused its efforts on sustainable mattress recycling, and has become a leader in an evolving worldwide recycling landscape. Mattress Recycling Program Hits Milestones in Connecticut
Today, April 22, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. What a milestone. It is fitting that while Earth Day has reached this auspicious milestone, the Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) reached an environmental milestone of its own: recycling more than six million mattresses in less than five years through its Bye Bye Mattress program. Six million mattresses equate to more than 210 million pounds of material diverted from landfills by MRC’s recyclers.
