The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) has been engaging with industry and community stakeholders as it prepares to launch mattress recycling programs in California, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Of note, MRC recently hosted a booth at the Southern California Waste Management Forum (SCWMF) Annual Conference in Pomona, CA. The event was an opportunity for MRC staff to speak with solid waste professionals who might be affected by the new mattress recycling program created by California Senate Bill 254. More than 150 attendees representing solid waste hauling companies, landfill and transfer stations, consultants, and municipalities asked questions about the MRC program and learned how they can participate. It was also an opportunity to hear from solid waste programs already handling and recycling mattresses and to discuss their current challenges. Earlier this fall, MRC also met with more than 30 municipalities at Connecticut’s Annual Conference of Municipalities to encourage program participation. MRC will attend the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns Annual Convention in January 2015.
